Every row is taken from the labels. Two numbers matter most when you compare: the CFU per serving and the capsules it takes to get there. Every label in PB8 probiotics prints these lines in the same order.

What each line on a PB8 label tells you

This is the Supplement Facts panel of PB8 Original, typed from the bottle. The numbered marks explain the lines people ask us about most.

  1. Serving size

Two capsules make one serving of the Original, so a 120-capsule bottle is 60 days. The 3-in-1 formulas are one or two delayed release capsules.

  2. Proprietary blend

The label gives the weight of the whole blend and lists the strains in it. It does not give a weight for each strain, and the FDA allows that for a blend.

  3. Prebiotic

Inulin from chicory root is listed under other ingredients. In the 3-in-1 formulas the prebiotic fiber has its own line in the table.

  4. CFU at manufacture

The count is at the time of manufacture. Bacteria are alive, and the count varies after that day. The label says so in its own footnote.

  5. Storage

A cool, dry place for the closed bottle, and the refrigerator once you open it is best. The 3-in-1 labels go further and say: refrigerate after opening.

Two ways to take it

Two classic capsules, or one delayed release capsule

Our Original, Vegetarian and Immune formulas are classic capsules. The Synbiotic 3-1, Women's and Vaginal formulas use a delayed release capsule and add prebiotic fiber and postbiotics to the cultures.

PB8 OriginalTwo classic capsules a day: 8 strains and 14 billion CFU, with inulin.
PB8 Women's ProbioticOne delayed release capsule a day, 50 billion CFU, for women 18 and over.
PB8 Immune SupportOne classic capsule a day with 15 billion CFU and 10+ strains.

Counts and storage

Why our labels say "at time of manufacture"

A probiotic is a count of live bacteria, and live bacteria do not stay the same number for ever. Our labels print the count per serving on the day the capsules are made, and they say that the number varies after it. We print it that way because it is the number we can stand behind.

What you can do is follow the storage line on the bottle: keep the closed bottle in a cool, dry place, put the lid back after each serving, and keep an opened bottle in the refrigerator. That is what our labels ask, and the bottle in your hand is the one to read.

  • Refrigerator after opening
  • Away from heat and damp
  • Lid closed after each serving
  • Use by the date on the bottle

What people search for

PB8 for women, PB8 acidophilus and the once-daily formulas

Four searches people type after the name, each answered by bottles from PB8 supplements.

PB8 probiotic for women

Our two women's formulas share a pair of strains, Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1. The Women's Probiotic adds 25 more strains for 50 billion CFU in one capsule. The Vaginal Probiotic is two capsules with cranberry and beet root in its fiber blend.

PB8 acidophilus

If you have always asked for "PB8 acidophilus", you are looking for our Original or Vegetarian formula. Both are two capsules a day with 14 billion CFU at manufacture and the same eight strains, two of them Lactobacillus acidophilus: La-14 and NCFM.

PB8 vegetarian probiotic

Our vegetarian probiotic is the Original blend in a capsule of plant cellulose and water: eight strains, 14 billion CFU per two capsules and inulin from chicory root, with no gelatin. It comes in the same four sizes as the Original, from a 60-capsule bottle to a pack of three.

About the brand

PB8 is a probiotic you can read

PB8 has been on shelves since 1989, and the Original still carries the eight strains it started with. Every formula in the PB8 family of formulas follows the same habit since then: each strain is named on the label by genus, species and code, so you know what you take and can hold it against any other bottle.

Six formulas now sit in two lines. The classic line is two capsules or one, with inulin or fiber. The 3-in-1 line is one or two delayed release capsules with fiber, cultures and postbiotics. What each one is made to support is printed on its label, and you will find the whole story of PB8 on a page of its own.

Questions

Questions about PB8 probiotics

Where can you buy PB8 probiotics?

Every formula on this site has a buy button that opens it at our retail partner, where the order, payment, shipping and returns happen. The price you see here comes from our last catalog update, and the checkout price is the one you pay.

Which PB8 formula should you start with?

For everyday digestive support,* most people start with PB8 Original: two capsules a day, 14 billion CFU, eight strains. If you avoid gelatin, take the Vegetarian. If you want one capsule a day, look at Immune Support or the Synbiotic 3-1. The comparison page puts all six side by side.

Do you need to refrigerate your PB8 bottle?

Keep the closed bottle in a cool, dry place. After opening, the Original and Vegetarian labels say refrigeration is best, and the Synbiotic 3-1, Women's and Vaginal labels say to refrigerate.

What does "14 billion CFU" on your PB8 bottle mean?

CFU are colony-forming units, the count of live bacteria in a serving. Our labels give the count at the time of manufacture and say it varies after that day. For the Original, 14 billion is in a serving of two capsules.

Is PB8 free of milk and gluten?

Every PB8 label says the formula contains no gluten, eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts or soy.

How long has PB8 been around?

PB8 has been on shelves since 1989, 37 years, and the Original still carries the eight strains its name points to.
